Who is God? What is He like? Is it really possible to know Him? We find answers to these questions in the Bible and in the person of Jesus Christ. God is ... - eternal
He has always existed and will always exist. (Isaiah 40:28)
- infinite
He is limitless and knows no bounds. (Isaiah 40:12-14)
- wise
His wisdom is perfect, limitless, and rooted in purity, love, and goodness. (Psalm 147:5)
- all knowing
He knows all things perfectly - there is nothing He does not know. (Isaiah 40:13-14)
- all powerful
He has unlimited power and ability. (Job 37:23)
- everywhere
He is fully present everywhere, at all times. (Psalm 139:7-10)
- unchanging
He will always be the same and will never differ from Himself. (Malachi 3:6)
- holy
He is absolutely pure and completely devoid of evil. (1 Peter 1:16)
- just
He embodies perfect moral equity. (Revelation 15:3)
God sounds pretty awesome, doesn't He? Perhaps a little unapproachable? How can we flawed, sinful humans relate to such a perfect, holy God? God is also ... - good
He is kind, benevolent, and tenderhearted, and He desires to bless His people. (Psalm 116:5)
- loving
He desires a personal, growing, active relationship with us. (John 3:16)
- gracious
He gives gifts that we don't deserve or merit. (Ephesians 1:7-8)
- merciful
He is actively compassionate in the face of human suffering and sin. (Psalm 103:8)
- faithful
He will honor all of His promises and never forsake us. (Hebrews 13:5)
Because God is good, loving, gracious, merciful, and faithful, He provides a way to bridge the gap between His holiness and our imperfection, and imperfect we are. Romans 3:23 says, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." The Bridge The bridge that enables us to live in relationship with God and to experience His love and mercy is His Son Jesus Christ. John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life." In Jesus' own words, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through me." (John 14:6) Crossing the Bridge It is not enough to simply know about the bridge ... Jesus. Nor can we earn our way into a loving relationship with God by doing good deeds or living morally. A relationship with God and eternal life are His gifts of grace to us. "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast." (Ephesians 2:8,9) To cross the bridge into a loving, eternal, personal relationship with God, we must simply receive God's gracious gift! How do you do this? Admit to God and to yourself that you've been living life your way instead of His way and ask Him to forgive you. Be willing to turn from your way to God's way. Express your faith in God and your belief that Jesus Christ died for you and rose from the grave. Invite Jesus Christ to take control of your life. You do this by prayer, by talking to God. John 1:9 says, "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness." Romans 10:9-10 says, "If you confess with your mouth 'Jesus is Lord' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." A Suggested Prayer Lord Jesus, I want to have eternal life. I know that I have sinned. I need your forgiveness and pardon. I believe that you died and rose again for my sins. I now accept You as my personal Saviour. I will turn from my sinful life. I know that Your grace and power will enable me to live for You. Thank you, Jesus, for saving me and for giving me a new, abundant, eternal life. I look forward to being your friend and follower. If this prayer expresses the desire of your heart, you can pray it now and be confident that Jesus will come into your life, as promised.
